I am 15, 5’10" and 155 so i am not fat or anything. my family has no history of diabetes, but i dont eat very well, hardly any fruits and vegetables and i drink a lot of soda. Can someone describe their onset of diabetes ie how thirsty they were and how often or if at all their feet fell asleep? thanks.

With teens, the symptoms are way more dramatic than being thirsty. There’s a lot of nausea and vomiting and a general feeling of illness and severe lethargy. The fact that you are a little thirstier than usual isn’t alarming.

My Dad has multiple health problems including diabetes, but was recently diagnosed with Renal Disease Stage III. He’s already been doing much of what they list at the site below (lost more than 50 pounds) and is trying to increase his exercise. I make a lot of his food, especially premade meals for him to pop out of the freezer into the microwave such as homemade burritos. The link indicates that he may have to avoid fruits and vegetables high in phosphorus or potassium. Which ones are these besides bananas (which he rarely eats anyway)?

The same web site also lists the high potassium and high phosphorus foods. Go to:

Back when I was on dialysis, I remember that I was supposed to limit potatos, tomatos,and oranges, but I can’t remember the rest, so they should be on the website.

Diabetes is a very serious medical condition. It occurs when your body does not produce and use enough insulin (which controls glucose levels). Diabetes can be categorised as either Type 1 or Type 2 and is a condition which is on the rise. You therefore need to know what to look out for.

If you have diabetes you may not notice any symptoms but there are two main signals; hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar/glucose) and hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar). If you are hypoglycaemic then your insulin has lowered your glucose levels too much and this may lead to dizziness, shaking, hunger pangs and sweating. On the other hand if you are hyperglycaemic this can result in weight loss, nausea, dizziness and/or light headedness.

Some more extreme symptoms you may notice as a diabetic are peripheral neuropathy (the loss of nerve functions in the arms and/or legs) and diabetic retinopathy (when the blood vessels of the eyes change, limiting or even eliminating vision). If you notice any of these extreme symptoms you should seek emergency medical care immediately. This will reduce the chances of permanent damage to your body.

If you start to recognise any of the symptoms listed go and see your doctor immediately. They will discusss your family’s medical history, any history of diabetes in the family, any medication you are taking and any medication you are allergic to. Your doctor is then likely to recommend one of the following tests to you:

FINGER STICK TEST:- This involves pricking your finger to draw a single drop of blood, placing this drop on a disposable test strip and then analysing the concentration of glucose in your blood using a small glucose meter machine. This test is the easiest but has approximately 10% of the accuracy of a laboratory test.

FAST PLASMA GLUCOSE TEST:- You cannot eat for 8 hours before this test. Before you arrive you will have blood drawn and tested. Once tested your blood reading should not be above 126 mg/dl. Otherwise, you could be diabetic and will need to confirm through either a Glucose Tolerance Test or Glycosylated Haemoglobin Test.

If you are diagnosed with diabetes as a result of the tests do not be alarmed. The majority of diabetes cases can be managed by improving your diet and using natural remedies. Even if you feel completely normal you should still get yourself tested by a professional doctor. It’s the only way to identify the problem and if neccessary start taking preventatory measures.

There are many counsel symbols and symptoms of diabetes. Both diabetes capture 1 and variety 2 have the same symbols and symptoms. They both show glut glucose in the blood and not enough glucose receiving absorbed into the cells. The debate there is high blood glucose in capture 1 diabetics is because there is a require of insulin as the body is receiving attacked by its own insulin producing beta cells. In letters 2 diabetic there glut glucose because the body is developing insulin resistance. Pregnant sometimes run the expose of getting gestational diabetes as the pregnancy hormones resisted insulin.

Some of the general advise signs and symptoms contain open to the toilet more regularly to urinate, you mislay influence swiftly lacking explanation, you feel bushed, numbness in your limbs, there is a hurt of idea or is blurring, you get dry skin and your bruises take long to cure.

The logic you will be urinating frequently is because there is a lot of glucose in your blood so the kidney is wearisome to attenuate it with water from the blood, hence your bladder is always plump. This is also a debate why you will be getting hungry more often. Because the kidney is pleasing water out of your blood to insipid the glucose, it will defer you dehydrated and you will then penury to down a lot of water.

The burden passing is more noticeable in a class 1 than a category 2, as it happens more leisurely in a manner 2 diabetic. The sense for the burden death is that the pancreas stops making the insulin as the body’s immune method is attacking the insulin producing beta cells. The body starts to use the muscle and fat for energy as there is no energy could be acquired from the glucose that is being absorbed.

The argue for suspicion weary and fatigue is because there is not enough energy unfilled. Because there is no glucose that is being absorbed into the cells for energy, the cells gain to feel tattered out. If you have high blood glucose, it will break the edgy approach especially the hands, feet, legs and arms. The limbs might indigence to be amputated if there is a need of circulation to them. The lack of eyesight or blurriness occurs when the blood sweetie altitude increases. Increased blood darling levels will also reason skin evils.

Therefore you should consult your surgeon if you are having more than one of these symptoms so that he can limit our blood glucose levels. It is better to get it checked out sooner, so that the therapy can be started ahead as well as preventing any complications from episode.

If you pay attention to your body, you can spot diabetes symptoms early and have a far better chance to reverse the disease before it becomes severe. Remember that Type 2 diabetes mellitus is practically always a preventable disease. You never have to experience the symptoms of diabetes type 2 – if you are willing and ready to make a firm commitment to healthy living today.

Diabetes Types:

There are several types of diabetes and most are preventable. Type 1 diabetes mellitus has no definitively-known causes and/or cures. This is also called insulin-dependent diabetes and is characterized by a complete lack of pancreatic function.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus, the most common type, is almost always able to be prevented through modifications in eating habits and exercise levels. Type 2 diabetes accounts for over 90% of all diabetes mellitus cases.

Gestational diabetes mellitus is the diabetes type that women develop during the later stages of pregnancy. The label is reserved for women who have never before exhibited any diabetes symptoms. It almost always regresses completely after delivery and is very manageable during pregnancy – again with healthful dietary standards and daily exercise.

Diabetes Symptoms:

Look out for the following symptoms of diabetes and consult with your physician if you believe yourself to be at risk:

Frequent urination;

Insatiable thirst;

Excessive hunger;

Weight loss;

Slow-healing wounds;

Drowsiness, difficulty waking up;

Fatigue, weakness;

Irritability;

Dry, itchy skin;

Velvety skin on neck or underarms;

More…

What causes diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is caused in the majority of cases by improper food choices, improper eating habits and sedentary living. We have to eat nutritious foods in a healthy manner and we have to exercise daily if we wish to avoid the development and onset of diabetes symptoms. There is simply no other way. Teaching yourself new ways to perceive the foods that you consume and being physically active bring new meaning to your life. Your days become far more enjoyable and you significantly decrease your propensity to develop all diseases – not just type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Current diabetes research shows that there are over 57 million people in the US alone that have pre diabetes. These are the people at the highest risks for developing Type II diabetes. If you are amongst them, then you need to take immediate action and redefine your habits concerning your diet and exercise programs. Remember that the symptoms of diabetes can very likely be reversed.

Preventing Type 2 diabetes:

You can prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus by committing to the following positive lifestyle changes:

Start concentrating on eating foods that are mainly water like fruits, vegetables and legumes;

Eat 5 or 6 small meals on a given day instead of just 1 or 2 large meals;

Eat your meals at the same times every day;

Shun fast foods and processed foods from your life. Also, no bleached foods, microwave foods or high-fat foods;

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption;

Avoid high-sodium foods;

Turn and run from Trans fats;

Drink a lot of water every day;

Exercise for at least 20 to 30 minutes every day;

Avoid the development of diabetes symptoms beginning today by committing to a healthy lifestyle. You and your loved ones will be so much happier for it.

Diabetes is sometimes a disease that has undiagnosed signs and many people are surprised when the physician’s diagnosis reveals that the patient has the disease. While it may not have signs that produce pain and agony, the disease working in the background can create serious problems if left unknown. Think about the heredity you have been given and school yourself on controlling and offsetting diabetes. Do it for you and your loved ones.

Do any of these diabetes symptoms appear in your life?

1. Frequent bathroom trips

2. Irritability

3. Extreme hunger

4. Unusual weight loss

5. Increased fatigue

6. Excessive thirst

7. Blurry vision

Can you avoid or postpone the onset of diabetes? After all, it can come from heredity. Many people have it, it has been considered for years and you may feel if you are going to get it, then there is nothing to be done. But, the symptoms of diabetes are so random and often not observed that many pre-diabetics do not seek help.

The two main workings of preventing diabetes are those that will give you multiple benefits as well: physical training or just increasing your measure of physical movement and proper nourishment in your diet.

You want to increase your fiber, your vegetables and proteins, and decrease your high sugar, high carbohydrate foods, and highly fatted foods. Even though it may seem scary at first, you can make the proper choices inclusive of a little action and proper arrangement so you win the battle against this illness. In other words set yourself up to win.

Even families that have diabetes and taking medication can often revert to proper blood sugar levels. This can be accomplished with the addition of more, or consistent, physical activity and proper diet in their lives. Some studies have shown, in fact, that this combination of diet and exercise can work as well as medications with out the potential side effects. Of course, you should not go off any treatments unless you plan a program with your physician first and have the proper normal readings on your diabetes tests.

Another imperative item to consider is an eye exam. This should be done every year to allow your physician to catch any upcoming or progressing diseases, including diabetes. Early detection is very meaningful as mentioned above. You have more of a chance to offset the disease by corrective measures if you know you can keep control of your situation by simple problem solving techniques.

In conclusion to this article then are:

1. Control your health by searching out handy food items and preparing them in a healthful way. If you need to improve on your meal preparation, take counsel with the American Diabetes Association, your local hospital, your physician’s office. You may also want to do a Google search on diabetes recipes.

2. Keep your weight at a normal measure for your age and height. This is often hard to do, but even a 10% decrease in your weight brings great rewards.

3. Get tested regularly for diabetes, even if you show no diabetes symptoms, especially if the disease is inherent in your family tree.

4. Follow your physician’s recommendations regarding the treatments and take them regularly until you have the diet and athletics under control. Then, maybe, you will be able to decrease or eliminate the medications you are using.

5. If you notice any of the diabetes symptoms listed above, please get a fasting diabetes test as soon as plausible to prevent the onset of any serious medical conditions that can be elevated or heightened by diabetes such as stroke or joint problems.

Inspection the diabetes problem in the United States just a little bit and you will catch why everyone should be aware of this dangerous and often misunderstood and often not diagnosed disease.

In summary: This article was written to give you an outline of diabetes. And to also make you aware of some of the diabetes symptoms. If you want to take care of a problem like reducing blood sugar or a potential problem go to the resource box.

A well-planned gestational diabetes diet can reverse the symptoms of gestational diabetes that you are exhibiting and enable you to enjoy a healthy delivery. Gestational diabetes develops in otherwise diabetes-free women, normally in the 24th to 28th weeks of their pregnancies.

As with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes can be effectively controlled in most cases, and even reversed completely in many cases, through implementing a gestational diabetes diet and getting daily physical exercise. Remember, what causes diabetes mellitus is poor dieting and sedentary living year after year.

Gestational diabetes symptoms often go unnoticed or are not thought to be unusual given that the individual is pregnant. Most frequently, gestational diabetes symptoms include being very thirsty and having to pee many times every day. Many women just consider this a natural part of pregnancy and pay it no mind. However, if the thirst is a result of elevated blood-glucose levels, then the developing baby is put at risk if the symptoms are not controlled.

The excess glucose in the mother’s bloodstream can pass through the placental wall and enter into the developing baby. Glucose in excess of what is required to fuel the baby’s development is then are stored as fat and can cause macrosomia (fat baby syndrome). Macrosomia can cause a number of health issues including:

Problems with delivery because the baby is too large;

A slowed metabolism and a propensity for the development of pancreatic issues in the baby;

Getting off to a start in life carrying extra weight and being prone to become overweight and/or obese;

More…

The gestational diabetes diet is just the same as a Type 2 diabetes diet and should be based as follows:

Water foods are the main concentration. That means plants: vegetables, fruits, grains and legumes;

Only low-fat and non-fat dairy products;

Only the leanest cuts of meat with all excess fat trimmed;

Avoid saturated fats;

Strongly avoid Trans fats;

Avoid alcohol:

Avoid fast foods and processed foods;

Avoid microwave foods and high-sugar foods;

Avoid high-sodium foods;

Drink plenty of fresh water every day;

Eat 5 or 6 small meals every day – not just 1 or 2 large meals;

Eat your meals at the same times every day;

In addition to planning and employing your healthy gestational diabetes diet, you also need to do the following:

Talk to your doctor and have him run blood work to determine if you have gestational diabetes for sure;

Exercise for 20 or 30 minutes every day – not like a maniac, just enough to get your heart pumping strong;

Check your blood sugar often at home with a home glucose monitor. The more often the better;

Resist your urges for ice cream and other naughty snacks – even though you’re pregnant. Being pregnant is the most important time to ensure that everything you eat is optimally healthful!

Develop and practice gentle techniques for stress management like meditation, Yoga and Pilates. Stress is your enemy.

Following a gestational diabetes diet, exercising every day and effectively managing your stress will ensure that your pregnancy is trouble-free and that you baby gets off to a healthy head-start in life. Begin today!

I’m 16 years old and over the Christmas break I went a little overboard with the soda, but I exercise somewhat often, walking 2 miles daily. On Wednesday of last week I got somewhat dizzy, I can almost compare it to being high. I went and laid down and felt fine for the rest of the day. Then the next day I felt dizzy, and started to worry because when I laid down my legs felt kind of numb, I was also pretty restless and felt somewhat weak. The next day I got a sore throat, so I laid in bed for a few days until my throat felt better, then I got up on Sunday feeling dizzy and weak again, after drinking a sip of soda I felt extremely dizzy and was very pale in the face. So I laid down and grabbed an orange, thinking it was no big deal, within 5 minutes I felt and looked normal. On Monday I decided to cut soda, and high-fructose syrup out of my diet completely, eating protein and lots more vegetables and fruits. Tuesday I laid in bed hoping I would get better, then today (Wednesday the 31st) i got out of bed, had an orange, some eggs and bacon, feeling still a little weak but not dizzy or numb in my legs. I went outside for a walk and dug out a fire pit in the backyard, which is for a party tonight. I need to know if I actually do have diabetes, the symptoms seem to fit, considering the amount of soda i consumed of the break. I was hoping that there was nothing wrong with me, because unfortunately I have no health insurance, and since the economy is headed towards a recession, my father isn’t making shit for cash, and cannot afford a visit to the doctor, I need to know if you think there is something seriously wrong with me.

Thanks,

Hypoglycemia Symptoms
Because epinephrine, one of the hormones that is activated by hypoglycemia, comes from the central nervous system, the majority of early symptoms of hypoglycemia are related to the nervous system.
Common symptoms of hypoglycemia include the following:
Trembling
Clamminess
Palpitations
Anxiety
Sweating
Hunger

Because the brain is deprived of glucose, a second set of symptoms follows:
Difficulty in thinking
Confusion
Headache
Seizures
Coma
Ultimately, death

Eating every 4-6 hours is important to prevent hypoglycemia.
Be adventurous and try something new to liven up your snacks between meals!
Each of the following counts as one starch:

One small apple, orange, peach, pear, nectarine, or tangerine
Eight animal crackers
Four medium fresh apricots or seven dried halves
1/2 of a banana rolled with 2-tablespoons Grape Nuts cereal
1 cup cubed cantaloupe
Twelve Bing cherries
Two chocolate mousse bars (Weight Watchers)
1/2 cup chow mein noodles
Two sugar-free fudgesicles
Three gingersnaps
36 Goldfish (adds 1 fat serving)
Three graham crackers (2 1/2-inch square)
1/2 low-fat granola bar
15 grapes
½ cup fruit juice
Five slices melba toast
1 cup skim milk
Three peanut butter sandwich crackers (adds 1 fat serving)
Two small plums
24 oyster crackers
3 cups popcorn (popped by hot air, or low-fat microwave)
1 slice of angel food cake
1 sugar-free pudding snack cup
Three dried pitted prunes
15 fat-free potato or tortilla chips
3/4 ounce pretzels
2 tablespoons raisins
Two rice cakes (4" diameter)
1 regular Jell-o snack cup
Seven Ritz crackers (adds 1 fat serving)
Six saltine crackers
½ cup canned fruit
15 Teddy Grahams (adds 1 fat serving)
Five reduced-fat Triscuits
Six Vanilla Wafers (adds 1 fat serving)
Six Waverly Wafers (adds 1 fat serving)
12 Original Wheat Thins (adds 1 fat serving)
13 Reduced-fat Wheat Thins (adds 1/2 fat serving)
1 cup nonfat fruit-flavored yogurt (sweetened with sugar substitute)
1/2 cup of sherbet or I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt or TCBY frozen yogurt

Most people I know that have hypoglycemia are THIN.
I think you could just try a low glycemic diet for a period you will find out that you can control this by your self. Heres a website for you to live by:http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
