Do I really have Gestational Diabetes?? I’m confused.?

I went for my 1 hour glucose test at 28 weeks pregnant. I was told not to fast and to eat normally but for some reason that morning decided to have captain crunch with strawberries cut up.

Anyway I took my 1 hour test and I was told it was high. The next day I fasted and took the 3 hour test. I got a call the next day that 1 result of the 4 was high and that I need to see a dietitian to manage my diabetes. And that I would have to start checking my blood sugar everyday with a monitor.

I was really confused because I have read in every pregnancy book and online that you have to have 2 results be high to be classified as Gestational Diabetes.

I have been feeling great the whole pregnancy and only gained 18 pounds so far. I go for a 20-30 minute walk everyday and have been eating plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Do I have it or are they just trying to be cautious?? I feel like going to the dietitian and checking my blood everyday is going to be a waste of my time. What is your opinion?
What is that supposed to mean? If you don’t have anything to contribute then do not waste your time answering my question!

Go ahead and see the dietician. You’ll get a free meter and then you can check yourself (it’s empowering)! If your results are normal after the first week, talk to your doctor and see what they want to do. While larger women tend to be more predisposed to getting gestational diabetes, it occurs with women of all sizes, diet choices, and activity levels. If you are adament about not seeing the dietician, ask for another screen and please follow the pretest instructions . Best wishes for good health.

They wont classify you as having GD yet, thats why they want you to monitor your sugar levels. Just be careful what you eat, nothing high in sugar, wheat bread instead of white and stay away from sodas and high sugar fruit juice. Lots of water. You really need to do the monitoring, it could be dangerous for you and the baby if you do have it and dont get it under control.
