It could well be down to stress. I lost about a stone in weight due to stress just last year. I didn't have the hair loss though. Good idea to have yourself checked by your GP. Don't worry - it probably isn't anything serious. Just another thought - does your dad or any close relatives, male or female, suffer from hereditary hair loss? I think you'd be too young for anything like that affecting you but I'm not an expert and hope that's not the case. I came across a product that actually helps re-grow your own hair, when I was looking into stuff for a friend. I won't bother mentioning it just now but please email me if you want to know more about it.
References :
There are many less serious causes of hair loss that don't involve life threatening diseases. If the 14 yr old boy is losing weight from an eating disorder this could lead to hair loss. If the weight is falling off without a change in diet he may have an overactive thyroid. If he is on any type of medication this could cause weight change and hair loss. The link below has information on the types and causes of teenage hair loss.
References :
Teenage Hair Loss

We can't diagnose you by those 2 symptoms alone. It MIGHT be cancer, it can also be stress. You need to get a blood test to determine what REALLY is going on with your body. Talk about your concerns with your doctor.
References :
Nursing Student

What is the diagnosis of a teenager losing hair and weight loss?
What if a teenage boy around 14, had hair loss and lost weight about 4 pounds of normal weight, what diagnosis is that? Is it cancer, lukekimia, or something else? If it's cancer or lukekimia what stage is this? Tell me real facts! :))
