Vitamin C And The Whey To Fat Loss

Vitamin supplements have often been used by serious bodybuilders to augment their physique, and improve their body’s response to exercise. But they can also provide a way for those simply interested in losing weight to get faster, more healthy results.

Probably the most interesting news from the scientific quarter is the study that suggests that vitamin C can help lower body fat levels, and that a deficiency in vitamin C may be linked to a gradual increase in body fat in people who aren’t dieting. In the study, 20 obese men and women were either given a placebo or 500mg of vitamin C a day. All of the people in the study were put on a low fat diet.

At the start of the trial, researchers found that those who had the most body fat also had the lowest levels of vitamin C (as measured in the blood). During the trial, those taking the vitamin C supplement had blood levels of vitamin C increase by 30%, and those taking the placebo had their blood vitamin C levels reduced by 27%.

Both groups lost the same amount of weight. However, those not taking vitamin C had an 11% drop in their ability to oxidize fat. The researchers found that body fat mass did decrease more in the group of people taking vitamin C, although they describe the difference as not being statistically significant.

Diet is obviously the most important factor in losing weight, as the study found. However the results may be beneficial for those whose weight loss has reached a plateau, or for those wanting to give their body as much help as possible. And ensuring there is enough vitamin C in your diet may prove to be a good safeguard against putting weight back on, if it is combined with sensible eating and exercise.

Vitamin C is believed to work in fat oxidation because it is involved in the creation of the amino acid carnitine. Carnitine is involved in transporting fats in the body.

Another popular bodybuilding supplement, whey, has been found to have a beneficial effect on blood sugar levels. Some meals are what is called high glycemic, which means that when they the carbohydrates in them are metabolized, they are released quickly into the bloodstream. This causes a spike in blood sugar levels, which gives you a lot of energy for a short while, but then leaves you feeling tired. It can also lead to cravings for other foods, which can make it difficult to stick to a diet.

The study was done on those with type 2 diabetes, although whey has been found to help healthy people improve their blood sugar levels after a high glycemic index meal also. In the study, when whey was added to a meal at lunch, there was a big improvement in the way the body handled the carbohydrates. It did not have much of an impact at breakfast, however. But at least for lunch and possible dinner, adding whey protein to a meal could help dieters control cravings, as well as regulate their energy levels after a meal.

Do Whey Protein and Creatine REALLY help with weight loss?
I’m 6’0", 274 lbs. (as of May 1) and I’ve decided to get into shape once and for all. I’ve done this many times before (been as low as 205 as recently as 3 years ago) but this time I’m going to keep it off. I’m not getting any younger and it gets tougher to stay in shape the older you get. Over the years I’ve never taken any suppliments for weight loss. Aside from a multi vitamin every morning all I did was change my diet and exercise. Now that I’m 31, the weight isn’t coming off as quickly as it used to…big surprise there. So I’ve been to multiple places like GNC, and other nutrition and vitamin shops and they all tell me basically the same thing: "Creatine and Whey Protein are what you need dude!!! You’ll be ripped!!!" The problem with that is when I lost weight in the past, I was already ripped. Strip away all the fat and anybody looks "ripped." I’ve read on websites about the pros and cons and so forth but when I call these guys up to get a little more detail, they just repeat themselves My goal is to lose 70 lbs. by the end of the year and get back to my "fighting weight" of 205. Will creatine and whey protein HONESTLY help me accomplish this faster? I’m asking here on yahoo answers because these guys at GNC etc. aren’t exactly objective when giving advice for this stuff and for that reason, I’m a little skeptical of their answers. Am I wrong here? Can somebody set the record straight?

After an 11-13 mile run, 50 mile bike or 3500M+ swim (long workout days), I use 2 scoops of Isopure, 1 banana and 16oz of orange juice SO THAT I DON’T LOSE WEIGHT. I use it as a recovery supplement for endurance training. A banana (90-100 cal), 1 serving of Isopure(2 scoops) (220 cal) and 16oz orange juice (220 cal) comes to a 540+ calorie "orange julius" and it’s much easier to prepare as a breakfast after a workout. Toss it all into a blender w/ a little ice. This concoction allows you to recover faster and train harder and sooner (like that afternoon).

Common sense dictates that unless you’re burning more calories than you’re taking in, you will not lose weight regardless of what you eat or drink. IF you take Isopure or other supplement (Supplements = additional = more calories) with regular meals and don’t burn it off, you’re going to gain weight VERY QUICKLY. A single shake is like having a meal in itself.

If you run, bike or swim for 90 minutes and you’ve burned 1300 calories, you need to find a quick way to refuel otherwise you end up weaker than when you started–for days. You need to get that into your system fast — In shake form, you can consume 540 calories in about 2 minutes and rehydrate at the same time.

Now, does any of this sound like it would be a good DIET supplement? Funny, the GNC guys told me it would help me gain muscle mass…. LOL!

The fastest way for you to lose weight is to sign up for a 10K – 1/2 Marathon 4 months in advance — perhaps even a triathlon, tell everyone then train like mad so you don’t sound like a braggart or end up being a liar or a DNF. Cheers!
