i eat ATON of candy and sweets everyday does this mean i will get diabetes?

im just wondering because like all i eat is sweets. im not fat or anything(a size 00 or 0) and i play sports and stuff but am i at risk of diabetes?

Maybe…especially if you have relatives who are diabetic-then you may have a very strong chance to become diabetic–and you may be hurrying it’s arrival into your life sooner.

Diabetes doesn’t make you fat–sugars-even the hidden starchy ones in Chips, Corn or Peas–these become addictions when you eat a lot of them. You know that Lay’s commercial-"Bet you can’t eat just one?!" Well-why do you suppose that was such a good commercial-it was true!!! Talk about "Truth in Advertising!"

Because of an insulin difficulty a person’s body may not be able to process sugars–so they aren’t used or passed through-that’s why a diabetic often becomes FAT-and end up with clogged arteries-heart trouble-bad circulation-and have to loose their leg-or eye sight-etc. I’m of course simplifying it-but in a nutshell that’s it. A diabetic who eats all that stuff-will still be starving..so they eat more chips. Literally-they may be fat-but they literally ARE starving-because their body has no fuel to keep them going..so they’re always hungry. Yet–if they eat the wrong stuff-it just glues itself on-so they get fatter and stay hungry.

People always think they can make them selves diabetic-but that’s actually inaccurate…you may be predisposed towards diabetes if it runs in your family-and you may hurry it–or slow it’s on slot by how you eat NOW. You are wise to ask your question!! I think Diabetes isn’t ever explained correctly or clear enough by physicians to us patients-it’s not inevitable unless we don’t pay attention–BUT If a Dr says you are Pre-Diabetic–then babe–you better start eating like a diabetic–because you are one!!!!

Break your sugar addiction-and you can slow the process down-maybe even stop it..you can still have candy occasionally–just allow yourself lots less. I’m diabetic-and I still have dark chocolate–just lots less..and I savor it longer-so it lasts a long time…don’t gobble..think of the flavor–and eat right the rest of the time. To me–chocolate is a special treat-I don’t have it often-so I make my choices wiser-so I’m actually quite slim and very healthy.

Diabetics are prone to infection–maybe that’s were pimples come in……..think about it. Everything is related!! Bad circulation from diabetes-causes trouble with your feet-being prone to infection, you may develop an infection that won’t heal very fast–thus a diabetic may have to eventually have a leg amputated from eventual gangrene…

Frankly–I love all my appendages–and plan on keeping ALL of them a long time-Walking is not overrated!!

A large portion of my diet is carbs (also sugars), although my BMI is around 19, am I at risk for diabetes?

Occasionally I get what I believe to be hypoglycemic attacks.
That’s strange wording. By "a large portion" I mean more than a normal American diet. Not entirely, but majority. And by "occasionally", I mean every few days, generally during exercise-like actions.

Yes, if you keep eating that way. It will catch up to you. I don’t know if you’re having hypoglycemic episodes or hyperglycemic episodes. The symptoms can be very similar. You would need to test your blood glucose levels to know for sure.
Simple carbs are easily broken down, quickly digested and converted into blood glucose. Complex carbs take a while. The definitions have changed some, but Type II diabetes occurs when your pancreas stops producing enough insulin to metabolize the glucose in your blood, or your cells become less receptive to use the glucose for energy. In either case, you’ll need to exercise, loose weight, avoid the simple carbs and high glycemic foods, and probably take meds. Life is not fair, so don’t tempt fate with bad eating habits now.

Gestational diabetes, now on 10 units before bed, levels are higher than ever now!?

I have been to the nutritionist, and of course my OB, I am on a strict dieting plan to watch my carb intake… i look at every label. BUT now since I have been on insulin my numbers are worse and out of control, one nite all i had for dinner is a turkey wrap (tomato wrap), and my numbers were at 194, it was crazy! Its like the better I eat and more insulin I take the worse my numbers are. Im starting to stress cause I cant control it… at all! not with food, not with insulin. I think its best if my OB put me on insulin before every meal, just to get this straight. HELP!?

well from experience every person is different and any little thing that may seem healthy to one person is not for another my friend can eat tapioca pudding and it keeps her sugar in the 400s all day but if she eat choclate pudding it doesn’t rise over 180? The insulin levels are also tricky and you could be taking the wrong kind of insulin you should really be consulting your doctor about what its doing to you stress also plays a big role in high sugars! i work in a hospital and when people are sick and stressed and there bodies are going haywire (pregnancy is perfect for that) it can take a while for your blood sugar to hit its normal ranges like for example watching your diet and its always between 150-200 give it some time and like i said be sure to consult your doctor
